BATON BOB: Listen for the Whistle!!!
Posted by: Cutty Shark / Category: EntertainmentReportersFirst; out of nowhere, you hear the whistle!!! “Fweeeh Fweeeh Fweeeh!!!” Then; no matter where you are (usually at work), everyone immediately runs to the window to catch a peep of who can possibly be blowing a whistle at this time of day?! Then appears this man. This man in which you will never forget as long as you live. A man whom stops traffic. A man dressed in a tutu, short shorts and majorette boots; twirling his baton to perfection. Who is this man?! The man in question is: Mega-Personality Baton Bob!!!
Baton Bob was born and raised in Martinsville, VA. However; in all actuality, he is not of this world. He made a name for himself in his hometown as the first male to join his high school majorette squad. Through his expert baton twirling ability, he made it to Drum Major. All these years later, time has not changed. Baton Bob is now playing Drum Major in the movie of his own life.
Bob Jamerson transformed into Baton Bob after the 9/11 Attacks. He took to the streets of St. Louis with the goal of making people smile during a time of tragedy. “My goal is to amuse and cheer to lift people’s spirits, and put a smile on their faces during their daily routine,” Baton Bob said. What happened next put Baton Bob in the history books as a certified Celebrity Personality. The city of St. Louis began to love Bob. As he marched around the city in full costume; fans would smile, shake his hand and request pictures. Then the media started coming out. He has been in every local newspaper in St. Louis as a ‘Human Interest’ piece. And rightfully so, he is Baton Bob!
“A month after 9/11, I remembered that. I went back in my closet and pulled this baton I hadn’t twirled in 20-some odd years, and I took my baton and exercise gear to go into that park to literally twirl my own spirit out of depression.”
After relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, Baton Bob immediately became a major personality in the city. Bob marched down West Peachtree and other major streets in Atlanta and made a name for himself. For the most part, people absolutely loved him. Not immune to any trials and/or tribulations of life, Baton Bob received his share of backlash, judgment and angry comments & stares. Arrests and Harassments soon followed, as he marched on to the beat of his personal triumph in remaining true to himself.
He has appeared on CNN, TBS, and made appearances on many television shows. He has also appeared in Creative Loafing Newspaper’s “BEST OF ATLANTA 2007″; he was voted best in three categories: Best Local Hero, Best Local Celebrity and Best Street Character! In 2008, he was selected by 10Best.com Travel Guides; as one of The Atlanta Colorful Characters, in the same year he was also voted the 10Best Bet Award Winners! He participated in the official opening reception for the “2008 Special Events Tradeshow” held at The World Of Coke Pavilion. He has presided as Master Of Ceremonies for radio station 99X’s “2008 Mardi Gras Ball”. In June 2008, he was featured on Revision3’s Internet Superstar.
That was then, and this is now…
After a 2 year hiatus, Baton Bob is new and improved in 2012. At the beginning of the year he unleashed a new character to the fold: Shake-A-Bag Bob. This year, the cheerleader in Bob is coming out to play with his pompoms a shaking. Also, he will be starting his Tour d’ Baton Bob. This is where he travels the 50 states and beyond showing the world the flavor of Baton Bob.
