God of Carnage starring Jasmine Guy
Posted by: Cutty Shark / Category: EntertainmentReportersGod of Carnage is the Tony Award® winning play by Yasmina Reza. The cast literally brings the Atlanta Alliance Theatre stage alive. The four person cast brought life to the stage as if there were many cast members, costume changes, and set changes. What makes the production at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, GA special is that: this is the first time that God of Carnage has been performed by an all African-American cast. The couples included: Michael & Veronica Novak (Keith Rudolph Smith/Jasmine Guy) and Alan & Annette Raleigh (Geoffrey Darnell Williams/Crystal Fox).
Meeting of the minds between the two couples came about when the Novak’s son was brutally attacked by a classmate at school (Raleigh’s son). The latter was called a snitch and proceeded to strike the young Novak son; thus, knocking two of his front teeth out. The Raleigh’s were invited to the house of the Novak’s to ease the dispute in an adult manner.
That’s when the real drama begins…
The Novak’s and The Raleigh’s start out discussing remedies in a rather diplomatic way; at first. Then, the gloves come off! Each person drops all facades and the real; flawed humans come out to play. Yes, right in the Novak’s living room.
Although we never see the children, the parents give us a clear look into why their dispute went as far as it did. We see the Novak’s and the Raleigh’s as irrational parents whom will not take responsibility for their children’s behavior; each blaming the other’s parenting skills.
Great performances by all cast members.
